WOMEN'S WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

‍Charlie Wylie (Port Jervis - IX)

Junior phenom Charlie Wylie out of Section IX has dominated both the men and women wrestling circuits in New York state over the course of the last three years. Beginning in 2022, Wylie qualified for the boys Division II state tournament as just an 8th grader and competed in a bracket with household names we know in New York like Jacob McVige, Brock Frederick, Anthony Valls, Carmine Calimeri, Ashten Haley, Chris Noto, Tommy Aiello, and Gene Edwards. Just a year later as a freshmen, she landed on the podium with a 6th place finish where she beat Wyatt Sartori and Joe Scott, both of whom are top 20 on NYWN's respective Class Rankings. Other notable men's wins she holds over the years include state medalist Marco Futia, state runner-up EJ Vass, and state medalist Owen Clark.

Now that women's wrestling is a sanctioned sport in New York, she has since ran the gauntlet and dominated her way to a NYSPHSAA women's state title in 2025. Outside of the New York wrestling season, Wylie has become a household name on the domestic freestyle circuit with a Fargo national title, another Fargo All-American finish, and having twice placed at Women's Nationals in addition to a runner-up finish at the Pan-American Games trials. In the Fall of 2024 Wylie was invited to compete at Who's #1, an event that brings the best two wrestlers in the country together to wrestle each other for a number one ranking. Wylie is currently tabbed as the 2nd ranked wrestler in the country at 110 lbs, and the #21 pound-for-pound women's wrestler in the country.
