A pair of college freshmen hailing from the State of Michigan exploded on the National NCAA Division 1 scene this weekend as Gabe Dean of Lowell and Adam Coon of Fowlerville won the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
Dean, wrestling for Cornell at 184lbs, scored a pair of wins over ranked wrestlers including an overtime win over #5 ranked Jake Swartz of Boise State in the semifinals. He capped the day of with a 13-3 win over Nebraska's Timothy Dudley in the finals.
Coon, who remained undefeated in his college career for the University of Michigan, scored a pair of overtime wins over top 5 nationally ranked opponents. He beat #3 ranked Nick Gwiadiziak of North Carolina State in the quarterfinals and #5 JT Felix of Boise State in the finals.
